How to Apply
The EdMom Scholars program is for high-achieving students from low-income families who want a little extra help on the college application and essay process. See requirements below for more details:
Applicants Requirements
- You are a U.S. Resident
- You are a second-semester high school junior. Your overall grades are strong and you are eager to attend college
- You will need to submit your high school transcript as part of the application
- You meet financial need criteria (please see the application form)
- You are highly motivated, love to learn and want a great college experience and career after you graduate

Who conducts the one-on-one essay coaching and college list development?
A volunteer group of expert college consultants who want to support students applying to college.
Consultants commit to provide eight hours of college application support.
How many students do you work with each year?
The 2022-2023 application cycle is our first year. We are excited to work with our inaugural class of students – the sky’s the limit!
Do you offer financial aid counseling? i.e. FAFSA submission and scholarship searching?
Our college consultants are not experts in financial aid counseling, but they will help you find colleges that are good financial fits for you.
Kate Sonneberg
Kate Sonneberg, the Executive Director of the EdMom Scholars program, believes deeply in the transformative power of college. That’s why she wants to help students navigate the college admissions process with a clear head and focused purpose.
Kate is a former application reader in the Princeton University Admissions Office, where she read thousands of applications each year. In addition to practicing law and teaching English composition and legal writing, she has been an active volunteer for years, providing essay coaching for students who could not afford private counseling, tutoring students in Newark, NJ, and chairing the Princeton University Alumni Schools Committee in Essex (NJ) and Hudson (NJ) counties, where she coordinated the alumni interviewing program in northern New Jersey for over a decade. She is a graduate of Princeton University and the Columbia University School of Law.
